The Diggs

Some of the little-known bands that I post about on here are not being talked about anywhere else, literally. And then some of them are those that are already getting much love on other sites, and rightfully so. Well Brooklyn's The Diggs are in that second category. You can go to any of these fine blogs and read past write-ups about this band: The Underrated Blog, Gorilla vs. Bear, HeartOnAStick, Yeti Don't Dance, Central Village...and more I'm sure. What I hear in this music is some 90's college radio rock, emo, and some British music influeneces. I can't quite put my finger on what well-known bands their music reminds me of but somewhere in there is a taste of The Verve and Sugar. Well, duh, lookit what they say about themselves on their MySpace page: "Guitar driven mid-nineties Indie rock coalesced with traces of English dream pop". That pretty well sums it up, except that it says nothing of the fact that their songs are beautiful blends of mood and melody that build to a powerful climax. To call these guys shoegaze would be close to valid but then it would also sell short some of the varied goodness you'll hear in their music. I've heard many people mention how good they are live, I can't wait to find out for myself.
