LOST: Theoretical Answers to 10 Questions Posed in Last Night's Finale "There's No Place Like Home, Parts 2 & 3"

Last night ABC aired the season finale of their hit show LOST. Per usual, fans of the series were given answers to many long-standing questions and then, ultimately, were left with a slew of new questions to ponder in the months leading up to the first episode of Season 5. One thing, however, is certain: the producers dig some late '80/early '90s rock. Check out the Pixies song that featured prominently in last night's finale posted below/after the jump.

However, be warned: SPOILERS ARE CONTAINED WITHIN: don't read this post if you haven't seen the episode. Forward at your own risk...

10. The manchild: Walt is still very important. And in his late 40's. Will he use his superpowers to revive a dead animal (or person, or "philosopher") or two next season??
9. The whisper: I'm guessing that Sawyer asked Kate to deliver something (a message?) to his daughter.
8. The bomb: Michael is dead. Jin is not: he'll be found (alive) by Daniel in his raft.
7. The Redhead: Miles knows that Charlotte has been to the island before. Then she realizes it's true... but who is she? A prior Dharma girl? Ben's childhood girlfriend? Ben's biological daughter he previously thought dead who was raised by someone connected to Jin/Sun? (she speaks Korean remember) She's definitely someone important... wonder how many toes she has on each foot?
6. The time machine: I'm thinking Daniel is going to do some time travel experiments in the Orchid ("Desmond is my constant"). Desmond already has time traveled. Ben seems to do the same by moving the island and waking up in Tunisia. Who else time travels? Everyone. Including the polar bear that ended up in the desert but used to push that cold-ass donkey wheel back in the day when moving of the island was needed.
5. The dream: Kate had a dream. There was a phone call (that, when played backwards, says "The Island needs you. You have to go back before it's too late.") and Claire showed up. But why did Claire explicitly say not to take Aaron back to the island? Isn't she supposed to raise him? And, is Claire still alive? I say yes. But as to the mixed signals between her and Ben about coming back to the island - who knows. (Also, was it just me, or did Claire look pregnant in that dream?)
4. The Widmores: Penny and Desmond are going to work against her father, something tells me Sun isn't really wanting to work "with" Charles Widmore either... but ultimately, who is he? Dharma Initiative? What's this thing he has going on with Ben?
3. The island: Poof! Island is gone. To where? Or, rather, when... I have no answer for this save the fact that temporal displacement is (clearly) very central to this entire story. Also, I'm back to thinking that this island could be Atlantis and that all of our main characters are descendants of the original inhabitants... or something.
2. The dead philosopher: (aka, Schrödinger's coffin) John Locke is Jeremy Bentham is... dead in the coffin. Did he kill himself? I'm thinking yes, in a very Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode IV kind of way. ("If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine.") Speaking of Bentham, his Panopticon is worth reading about in regards to LOST. Big time.
1. The return: Season 5 is shaping up to be about how/when/why Jack, Kate, Sayid, Hurley, Sun, Aaron, Locke, Walt, et al. get back to the island. Big lol potentials lie ahead of us as the Oceanic 6 (plus) have to Weekend at Bernie's Locke's ass back to the island. I can't wait.

Previously on Lost is a band. A band you say? That's right. Two guys, Jeff Curtin and Adam Schatz, who've decided that the best way to recap each week's brand new episode of the television show LOST is to make an original song about it as soon as possible. WARNING: "LOST" SPOILERS CONTAINED WITHIN THIS 8+

Okay, let's talk TV. Shall we? Great. But first, let me reinforce the above statement. If you're not fully caught up with "Lost" you might want to NOT read what's written below. I'm really not looking to spoil the show for anyone, so consider this fair warning: I'm about to talk about the Season Three finale which aired last night.

Still with me? You "Lost" fiend you. Let's ask ourselves some questions here, shall we? Please feel free to play along with more questions (goodness knows there are many more than what I've listed here) or answers of your own in the comments. I know some of you who most definitely watched, so don't be shy - speak up!

Q: Aren't you glad Charlie finally died?
A: Yes I am, he was sooo annoying. But then, they sure did find a nice way to let him go out honorably. "Not Penny's Boat," you go Charlie.

Q: Okay so whose boat is it then? And was Charlie actually communicating with Penny?!
A: Well, it would appear he was actually talking to her and had just enough time to tell her that Desmond is alive and on the island, and that he was a survivor of Oceanic flight 815. As for the boat, your guess is as good as mine. But here's my guess: it's Penny's father's people who just happen to be connected to the Dharma Initiative in some way.

Q: So was that actually a flash forward for the first time? Were we seeing the future?? Kate and Jack were safely off the island?!
A: It appears it was indeed some kind of flash-forward. I mean, they pretty much spelled it out for us by making the name of the funeral parlor (Hoffs Drawlar) an anagram for "flash forward". Is it the actual future? Who knows, but Jack sure wasn't happy whenever it was. And he said he was sick of lying. Lying about what? Also, he'd actually become just like his father who, by the way, may or may not actually be dead - though I tend to think he is. And strangely, Kate seemed to want to run towards someone for the first time (at least, for the first time in the world that isn't on the island). What the eff??

Q: Speaking of the flash forward, what was up with the newspaper article, and who was in the coffin?
A: Who knows, right? I've found a rough transcription of the newspaper clipping HERE on the Lostpedia but it only offers hints. It's anybody's guess as to who died (what do you think?), what we know for certain is that reading this article made Jack consider killing himself. Oh, and the newspaper article is apparently from April 5th, 2007.

Q: What was up with all of the suicide references in last night's episode?
A: Yeah, seriously. Did you catch all of them? I'm not sure I did, but let's review... we had Jack attempting to jump, Locke almost shooting himself, Charlie killing himself by closing the door, Mikhail "killing" himself with the grenade, Sawyer and Juliette going on a "suicide" mission back to the beach, Sayid willing to give up his own life if it meant helping everyone escape the island, and finally... the fact that "Scentless Apprentice" by Nirvana was playing in the car on the anniversary of Kurt Cobain's suicide (if we are to believe that the paper is indeed from April 5th) as Jack drives to the funeral of a man who apparently killed himself (liberal conclusion jumping based upon the above linked rough transcription of the newspaper clipping). What's up with all of that? And how freaking sweet was it to suddenly hear some Nirvana on "Lost"?

Q: Where did John Locke run off to once he realized he couldn't stop Jack from using the phone?
A: I'm guessing he went to talk to Jacob, who I'm guessing had been telling Locke he needed to stop Jack.

Q: Who would win in a fight to the death between Mikhail and Locke?
A: Trick question. The answer is neither, they apparently can not be killed. Which is really cool in a horror movie kind of way. I'd love to see a battle royale matchup of Freddy vs. Jason vs. Mikahil vs. John Locke.

Q: Do we really have to wait some 8+ months for a new episode of "Lost"?
A: Yes, it appears we do. But we've got each other, and that's a lot for "Lost", so bring on the questions, answers, guesses, and theories!
