The band play 'Demon Days' live for first time
A host of special guests performed live with Gorillaz last night (November 1) as they opened their five night residency in Manchester.
Neneh Cherry, De La Soul, Ike Turner, Roots Manuva, Martina Topley Bird and Shaun Ryder all appeared onstage at the Manchester Opera House as the band performed second album 'Demon Days' in its entirety.
The show blended live performance, 3-D animation and even a guest appearance from band members 2-D and Murdoch who appeared as live size puppets in one of the Royal boxes.
They caused mischief throughout, at one point showering fans with popcorn before leading the cheers for the band to return during the encore.

This was the worst gig i have been to in a long time. i loved this album, probably the best contstructed album for a long time. hence my hopes were high. roots manuva was so inhibrated he slurred his words and forgot the, shaun ryder -like wise- and had to be prompted (he doesnt really have much to remember does he?).
the album was played beginning to end with no elaboration or improvisstion, other than ike's outstanding performance. you would expect from a man (Damon) of such talent, a lot more. we were promised a live show yet they might have well have just stayed behind thier screens, a silohuettes not much different, especially when the majority of the band members were static half the time anyway. there was no passion or enthusiasm (other than the outstanding perfomance from the drummer) that makes live gigs such an event.
we've seen you jump around rescently with blur Damon so dont tell me arthrites in settleing in yet.
