Man Man @ Bowery Ballroom - 10 April 2008 (pics, live video/MP3)

Man Man owned Bowery Ballroom last night. Marking their territory early by commandeering the house speakers with a continuous loop of Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy” as they set up, the message was clear: you’re in our world now, New York City. And what a wonderfully bizarro world it is…

Clad in signature "off-white" duds and warpaint, the band - Honus Honus, Pow Pow, Chang Wang, Sergei Sogay, and Critter Cat - gleefully bashed and thrashed their way through a frantic nonstop set, drawing heavily from their latest ramshackle masterpiece Rabbit Habits while also culling favorites from their first two albums. When we spoke to Honus last week, he revealed why playing a show straight through was a strategic choice: “Better to punch someone in the face and then get off the stage,” he said. “And if you’re constantly playing, you don’t hear the heckling.”

Not to worry; the sold-out crowd was far more content to dance, mosh, crowd-surf, pump their fists, spill their beers, and shriek sing-alongs than heckle. And Man Man worked them to such a frenzied level of bliss it seemed they’d be more than happy for a punch in the face too. Check out loads of video, pics, and MP3s from this show after the jump…
