Holy Wah Wah. Look,I'm a recovering wah pedal addict; my sickness began when discovering Jimi Hendrix at age 12 and progressed accordingly from there. Problem is, you don't get a chance to hear you some nice wah wah in indie rock these days, do you?
Fear not, for White Denim is here, and singer/howler/guitarist James Petralli loves him some wah. He also loves spazzy yelps, cigarette breaks, skronking walls of noise, and damn catchy tunes. This Austin-based trio has got everything in place for a huge year: winning stage presence, catchy tunes, energy to spare, and a choice opening slot for Tapes 'n Tapes on their upcoming tour. They could probably stand to get a little tighter, but I suppose that's also part of their whole charm. After seeing them at Hot Freaks on Friday, consider me charmed and back in love with wah. More pics after the jump...Listen: "Shake Shake Shake"
