According to NME, White Rabbits drove 27 hours straight in order to make the Hot Freaks show at Club DeVille on Saturday afternoon. Then again, NME exaggerates everything so who knows how accurate that is. If such tall tales were in fact true, however, at least there's six band members to split the driving. I mean, that's really the only possible explanation for how energetic, playful, and perfectly on top of their game they were for this show given the commute.
Oh yeah, apart from ridesharing, another good thing about having six members is the ability to create such an amazing wall of sound. I've said it before after their Bowery show late last year and I'll say it again now, do not miss these guys live.
Of Montreal's Kevin Barnes kicked things off prior to the Rabbits. His performance was billed as a special DJ set but he must have forgotten his tables (or iPod) because he instead chose to play a brief but wonderful 4-song acoustic set that included both Grateful Dead and Bob Dylan covers as well as a rendition of one of my favorite songs from last year, "Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse". See more pics from both sets after the jump...
