There are, obviously, benefits from being in touch with labels and PR peoples. Many benefits in fact, it's just that I tend to like to champion the best of the less well-known bands that I come in contact with here on EAR FARM. Doesn't mean I don't know a good thing when I see it (or when one is sent my way rather) and this, this is a good thing.
Golden Smog is releasing their latest record Another Fine Day on July 18th. Do you know this band? Of course you do...it's Gary Louris, Marc Perlman (The Jayhawks), Kraig Johnson (Run Westy Run), Dan Murphy (Soul Asylum) and Jeff Tweedy (Wilco) and the new song sounds mega nice. Nice? Yeah, I mean it won't bite your head off or anything and it very much sounds like the result of some excellent musicians having it large with all of their shared talents and hitting full stride and collaborating perfectly well and whatnot. This song (“5-22-02”) is being sung by Kraig Johnson with background vocal support from Gary Louris, Dan Murphy and Holly Marilyn. Plus, it's a fantastic song for a nice summer day like today. Enjoy.
