Monday morning mini-mix

On my way to work this morning I put my iPod on shuffle and listened to each song it gave me, no skipping. Here's the mix my iPod came up with during my commute (with a bit of commentary)...and yeah, I've got a rather short walk to work, thus the "mini" nature of the mix.

1. "Here On Earth" by Love And Rockets - Love And Rockets is rather underrated, maybe that's because they never shied away from dating their sound with sweet woodwind solos (what is that? sax? clarinet? an oboe?) and reached success thanks to one hit song ("So Alive"). The band is much better than people realize and the album this song is from is classic. Buy Earth Sun Moon HERE.

2. "Elixir Is Zog" by Sebadoh - When this song came on I did a tiny little happy dance...in my mind. Amazing since I was still doing a bit of a Monday morning zombie walk. I love Sebadoh so much and I love Bubble and Scrape...it was the last Sebadoh record that had Eric Gaffney on it, he rules. This is one of his songs. Dig it. Buy Bubble and Scrape HERE.

3. "Remember Me" by British Sea Power - I've never kept secret my love for this band. They're probably my favorite current band and this song is just plain perfect. One of the best songs of the '00s, in my opinion, and one of the best debut albums of the past 10 years. Buy The Decline of British Sea Power HERE.

4. "Ring Of Fire" by Johnny Cash - This isn't fair. I have the Johnny Cash box set on my iPod so sometimes shuffle is skewed a bit towards Cash. That's never a bad thing though and "Ring Of Fire" is a spectacular song written by June Carter Cash about loving Johnny...but you already knew that. Buy The Legend of Johnny Cash HERE.

5. "New Song" by Sublime - Good, yes. This song came on in the elevator once I got to my office building. I don't think the two older women in the elevator with me liked that they could kinda hear my music breaking through the silence and I don't think they were digging on the fact that it was Sublime. Pssh, they obviously don't know good summer music when they hear it. Me, I was THIS close to singing along out loud. Not a bad start to Monday. Buy 40 oz. to Freedom HERE.

Bubble & Scrape is great--probably my fave Sebadoh album.

I actually wanted to see if you got my email last week or if it possibly got caught in the band/PR emails I'm sure you get a ton of like me. Just had a quick question that I thought you might be able to answer as an NYC blogger. Thanks.
